ADDITIONAL CANDIDATES FILING ON THE FIRST DAY

The following candidates filed for election as of close of business today on the first day of filing.

Democrat Mike Anderson has filed for reelection to the District 2 Commissioners seat.

Democrat Darla Dahl has filed for the Clerk and Recorder’s position that is currently held by Democrat Diane Mellum. Darla is currently the Deputy Election clerk in the Clerk and Recorders office and word has it has been “groomed” for advancement into this position when Mellum decided to retire.

Democrat Kathy Olson filed for reelection to the County Auditor’s position.

Democrat Don Brostrom has again filed to retain his seat as Hill County Sheriff.

Democrat Carrie Dickson has filed to retain her position as Hill County Treasurer / Assessor

Republican Rowlie Hutton has filed to run for Senate District 17 which has been vacated by termed out Democrat Senator Kim Hanson

Good luck to those that have filed and anyone wishing to file for one of the available positions has until close of business March 15th, 2010 to toss their hats into the ring.

One of your statements in this article bothers me. You stated that Darla Dahl has been “groomed” by the current Democrat hierarchy to move on up to be Clerk and Recorder upon Mellum’s retirement, and yes that statement is true.

I recall that a couple of terms ago that the Auditor Olson had also been “groomed” to move on up in that office when Velk left and a Republican dared to file against her. The gossip around the courthouse that day was as bad as yesterday when the two Democrat Attorneys filed against each other except it was hate talk against the Republican that filed and was messing up the natural selection process of the courthouse hierarchy.

The whole reason the mess at the courthouse never gets any better is because no one is allowed to step out of order and try to make any changes without the Wrath of the democrat devils from within befalling them

  3. I think that the term "groomed" is used as a derogatory term in this instance. There is so much red tape involved in most of these govt. jobs created by years and years of legislative mandates, that someone fresh off the street would take years to learn their way through the maze! I think training subordinates to know the "rules" of the job is necessary to prevent a huge snafu. Also, most of these offices may use different software than someone off the street would be used to using, not that it couldn't be learned, but working your way through the ranks gives you a working knowledge of the system. Grooming? I don't know.

  4. Anonymous……….you actually think it takes an average person years and years to learn to continually munch non-stop on pork rinds without having a snafu? Seriously though, the offices up for election are for the Department Heads or the Bosses of that office. Does a County Commissioner know how to run a road grader?

What they need to know is how to get production from their current knowledgeable staff, they need to know how to get work out on time, and they need to know how to deal effectively with people who include you and me, the taxpayer. The State of Montana also has training numerous times per year where people dealing with the issues of these offices are trained to properly handle all the red tape. I agree with the post’s comment that claims nothing will ever get any better than it is now if you can’t bring in new blood, fresh ideas, and most important, a fresh, ambitious attitude towards the office and perhaps a better work ethic. I would vote for any candidate challenging one of these offices if they had these traits and campaigned on the promise to clean up the inefficiencies in the courthouse.

I may even vote for a candidate that only makes the promise that I could just get my vehicle registration back just once without Twinkie filling smeared all over it. ……….. oink………
