The 2010 election cycle is kicking off and those wishing to run for office can begin filing tomorrow, January 14th at 8am at the Clerk and Recorder’s office in the Hill County Courthouse. The following offices are up for grabs.
Hill County Commissioner – District 2, currently held by Mike Anderson with a salary of $41,904
Hill County Clerk and Recorder, currently held by Diane Mellum with a salary of $39,904
Sheriff / Coroner, currently held by Donald Brostrom with a salary of $47,889
Hill County Attorney, currently held by Gina Dahl with a salary of $86,974
Hill County Superintendent of Schools, now a half-time position, currently held by Shirley Isbell with a salary of $20,352

Hill County Treasurer / Assessor, currently held by Carrie Dickson with a salary of $39,904
Hill County Justice of Peace, currently held by Terry Stoppa with a salary of $39,904
All incumbent candidates are Democrats with the exception of Justice of Peace, Terry Stoppa who serves in this non-partisan position. All offices are for a four year term with the exception of the Hill County Commissioners seat which is for a 6 year term.
In addition, all 100 House of Representative seats and half of the State Senate seats are up for election this year. In our area HD 32, currently held by Democrat Tony Belcourt, HD 33, currently held by termed limited Democrat Bob Bergren, and HD 34, currently held by Republican Wendy Warburton are up for grabs. On the Senate side current Democrat Senator Kim Hansen in SD 17 is term limited out this year leaving a vacant seat available with no incumbent to run against. The Senate and House members are both paid a per-day salary, per diem, and mileage for their respective work in the legislature.
Also all political parties’ precinct committee people are up for election this year. Want to make changes in your local party? Democrat or Republican, now is your chance to have a voice in local partisan politics.
I always wondered what the hard working (a-hem!) folk at the courthouse got paid. Another thing I didn’t realize was that they are all Democrats. While being a Democrat in itself is ok with me I really don’t feel that good about every single one of them being all from one party. Just who will blow the whistle on one of the rotten buggers if they are all the same party members? For the tax payers safety we need at least one person in the courthouse of an opposing party.
ReplyDeleteAs far as those running for office I am of the mind that most of these incumbents need to be voted out if anyone with any adequate qualifications files to run. I am thinking like the voters did nationally this last election. We need CHANGE! Look at all the sad situations that have happened at the courthouse the last few years, not to mention the step fiasco or the fighting and petty school yard bickering with the city.
And as far as your poll about who I would like to most see voted out you left out the selection for my choice which would be all of them. What the hell kind of poll is this? You gave us a choice of the three dumbest incumbents in the whole courthouse. Let me think about how to make a selection here for a minute. I could vote for Commissioner Anderson, a known womanizer and rarely seen at work commissioner, I could vote County Attorney Gina Baby that has the biggest bungled evidence and lost case record in the history of the county attorney’s office, or vote my particular favorite the County Treasurer Dickson. Go to the treasurer’s office and you won’t be able to decide if Ben Franklin is hosting a craft school or a junk food convention is in progress. ………………oink
I will give the blog credit for at least agreeing with me on the worst three offices in the building. Thanks also Corrector for providing the taxpayers a place to compliment the fine job our public “servants” are doing TO us. -:(
I want to start out by saying that I hope Anderson gets beat, but by saying he doesn't deserve it because he is a womanizer? If thats the case maybe you should take a look at the republicans who were defeated in our last city election. Not that that has anything to do with their qualifications.
ReplyDeleteWomanizing on county time, or is it on the fire chiefs desk, is ok because the Republicans are also doing it? That’s what I like about this blog. THEY WANT TO GET RID OF ALL THE BUMS, no matter what party they are sucking up with.
ReplyDeleteI think Freddy has a right to post his opinion same as you sweetheart anonymous poster
Total annual salaries = $356,735
ReplyDelete$41,904 x 6 years = $251,424
$86,974 x 4 years = $347,896
$39,904 x 4 years = $159,616
What are the benefits?
Is there any heavy lifting required?
Who do I report to?
Punching in and out with a time clock required?
That's a great post Eastend. Never thought to do the math. I here tell Anderson comes and goes when he pleases in the commissioner office and there are no set hours there except for thier weekly meeting which they change as they see fit.
ReplyDeleteI think you do have to have a law degree to run for county attorney but in the rest of the offices you just have to be 18 and smart enough to sign the filing form even if you have to have someone else fill it out for you.
Who do you report to? ............ that is the problem....NO ONE!
As far as lifting goes................are you able to tote a Sam's Club size jumbo-box of chips and a Super-Slurper soda to your desk without assistance?
