JACK TRETHEWAY FILES FOR HD33

Democrat Jack Tretheway, Havre firefighter and manager of a local convience store, filed for the office of House Representative in HD 33 yesterday. Tretheway will be running against Republican Kris Hansen, currently the Chief Deputy County Attorney in Hill County. Tretheway’s wife Janet just took office as a Havre City Council person after defeating incumbent Republican Terry Schend in November.

House District 33 is currently represented by Democrat Bob Bergren who is termed out. Bergren also was a former Havre firefighter that used leave of absences and sick leave to enable him to be gone from his job and still serve the 3-month stint in Helena. Bergren has since retired from the fire department and is now working for the Democrat party recruiting candidates.

We at the Corrector wonder is Tretheway retiring? Or does he plan on giving the City “one on the chin” like our former representative did his first term. I would hope that Tretheway would do the honorable thing and resign his position with the City to save the taxpayer from paying for an employee that is not showing up for work as did his predecessor. Currently Havre Firefighters are on a three day work schedule. Kris Hansen, his opponent, has stated that she would be taking a leave of absence without pay during the legislative session.

Good luck to the candidates

  1. Unbelievable. If the Democrats keep it up with candidates like Jack I will have nobody from my party I will be able to actually vote for. May as well just stay home

  2. Just what we need. A Bob Bergren clone for the same seat. Whats with all the firemen running for office? IE Bergren,Anderson,Trethway,Krezlack

They must have way too much time on thier hands. How about we rearrange the firemen schedule to 5day 8hour shifts?

  3. Now Jimbo, you know it's sacrilegious to even speak of putting these city employees on a "regular" schedule. How are they to "moonlite" with their other little employment ventures? Not to even mention the oppuntunity to hold an elected office and draw benefits from the city.

  4. I heard once that particularly the fireman's union encourages their members to seek political office better to influence the union's paycheck

  5. I find it hard to believe that this guy would have the backing of the democrat party.

I don't know this Kris that he is running against but I do know of Jack.

If brains were gas he wouldn't have enough to start a piss ant's motorcycle

  6. Ever been to the Capital Beerogre? The firemans union lobbying house is directly accross the street from the capital. I don't know about every session but I do know that our local "hero fireman" representative Bergren used that office for his home during at leeast one session. Nice little conflict of interest.

Since I have been told that Bob Bergrens job with the state Democrats to find candidates to run for office that clears up why all his buddies are now filing for office. I would bet that Jack is planning on living at the union hall in Helena and pocketing the expense money like Bob did

  7. I'm personally disappointed Miss Kris isn't running for County Attorney. I think that would be much more fun for all three of them vying for the crown!!

  10. These are some great comments and thoughts, people. I think all of you should file for office, win a really hard-fought race after months of unpaid work, go to Helena w/o expense money, quit your jobs with no job to come back to, which would open up new jobs for the Havre area. On second thought, this might be a problem for our political system as no one would be able to/afford to run. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it.
