LITTLE SHELL TRIBE STIMULAS GRANT

The Little Shell Tribe lost over $600,000 in stimulus money as per this piece on KFBB TV. Although the Corrector bloggers have tons of opinions on this story we would like to hear from our local readers as to what they think and will keep our comments to ourselves until later.. What do our readers think? Do you agree with this decision?

  1. I have also heard our local railroad got a stimulas grant to create jobs.

The way it was explained to me is that the railroad also got a grant for $600,000, and has used all the money to remodel the offices in the yard office for the local executives.

It makes me wonder what they would do if they had enough money to put in high speed passenger service.

I hear they have a lot of people laid off, I hope they used some of those people to to the remodel work.

  2. I for one do not understand why they would even be considered for the grant. They have failed to be recognized as an official tribe. Along with the current scandel regarding their accounting practices over the last 5-10 years. Then again I must admit, hopefully with out sounding racist. That it makes me very angry that any tribe gets money just on the bases of being at least 1/5 native american. I don't understand why tax payers money should go to treats that were made for wrongs people commited 150 years ago. No person or race can improve if they are just handed what ever they want.

  3. This also is nonsense. Why would we want to take a people that are reasonably self-suffecient and teach them to be wards of the government like we do with reservations. They are removing themselves from the levels of poverty gradually why would anyone in their right mind want to be added to a failed system for the sack of a little immediate gratification?

Our governor needs to quit buying Native American votes and do what is right here

  5. I agree with Jimbo, per capita, Little Shell members are employed more and contribute to society, due to necessity. And Mr. Sinclair’s last statement, money they lost and the state will have to make it up. What about all that lost and unaccounted money from the past? If one does not admit to a mistake, it is a refusal to correct any future ones. Thank you Gov. Schweitzer, it’s nice that they must deal with consequences like everyone else in the real world.
