DEMOCRAT VS REPUBLICAN

As I read the comments to the blogs I notice that allot of comments are made about one political party or another, but it seems to me that there are despicable people in both parties and also good people representing both parties. I find it hard to understand why anyone would vote for someone strictly because of their party affiliation. I have also found that a few people in Havre actually despise people with differing political beliefs

I have questions I would like to pose for a SERIOUS discussion. Please tell me why you are a Republican or Democrat, as the case may be. What beliefs or platforms do the parties hold that causes you to align yourself with a particular political party? How do you decide which candidate to vote for? Do you vote both parties or stay with what is termed “straight-line” party voting? I am very curious about the thought process that people use to make their selections. I guess I ask this question because I know numerous people that do vote religiously that never-ever read a newspaper or watch the news. How then do they decide?

Please let’s try to refrain from just bashing the political parties here and give us some serious responses.

  1. I voted Republican because Sarah Palin is hot

  2. I vote Democrat straight ticket. I am a union worker and the Dems are the only ones that give a crap about us. The elephants only care about chainy, the oil companies, and big corporations

  3. The days of Pasma and Voughy are gone forever. If you are a Demo you are hated by the Repubs and Visa versa. What is it anyway, it just doesn't seem to me that voicing your beliefs or objections about an issue is good enough even if you give a good reason why or why not you supporet the issue. If you support an issue brought forth by the repubs then you are a stinking Republican, or if you support an issue brought forth by the Dems then you are a stinking Democrate. Why can't one person of one party affiliation believe something brought forth by the other party without being chastised by the other party. This is a great nation that we live in but has always had it's short comings because of party lines and battles from both sides. Our country is sliding backwards this very day because the people and the parties refuse to try to see eye to eye on any issue that is important to everyone in this counrty and not to just special interests and the pork barrel(which is another problem in its self) I would guess I am not of any party affliation because I will not answer to a party and I do and always will vote for the person that is best suited for the office that they are running for and not because they are of a particular party affiliation.

  4. I guess the point of this from my view is that everyone may vote both parties but most claim to be affiliated with a party or ideal. Every councilman listed a party when filing for office.

What I want to know is what does the Democrat Party stand for? What does the Republican Party stand for? Why are you a (select one /a Rep or Dem)? And why would I want to be one?

  5. Every councilman lister aparty because it is required, Nonpartisian is the way to go. I would bet that half the people don't have a clue why they are of that party except there parents or friends are or where.

  6. I think thats the point of this blog. To see if anyone has a reason or belief for what party they are. I bet they get very few, if any responses answering the post. I am thinking about it and will post later

  7. Let me see, am I a dem or a repub? I think I am a conservative, but cruzer seems to doubt that. How about I post my beliefs and you tell me what I am. This is a very good question by you Corrector.
Anyway, on to my politcal beliefs.
    I am anti-abortion.
I own guns and believe that the 2nd amendment allows me that freedom. Don't mess with it!!!
It's my money and I should be allowed to keep it and decide where it should be spent. Or they can at least spend my taxes wisely.
If you have city services on your property, you should be part of the city. Period. If you don't have city services and don't want them, you are entitled to that. I fit this scenario. I moved out of city limits to get away from the water/sewer bill fees.
If you kill Americans on American soil on behalf of your country, flag, or religous beliefs, you have declared war on us and should be dealt with accordingly. Execution, in my opinion, seems too soft of a method.
Murderers, rapists, and child molesters need to be executed. Not as a punishment, but as a deterrent to other idiots who would consider doing the same thing.
Tiger woods is an idiot. Sending Michael Vick to jail for killing a dog, but allowing Ray Lewis to even touch a football field outside of a prison is ludicris.
I vote nationally and state wide on these issues. My votes locally are based on my knowing the candidates and how they handle themselves.
I still want to know the answer to the question I asked people 2 years ago. Who the hell is Barack Obama??????? And where did he come from? I know Hillary is wondering the same thing.
The same question was asked by me 1 year ago about Sarah Palin, but in the last year she has at least been brought to light by the press. They treat her bad, but there is a little truth in their representation. Not so with Obama. He can do no wrong in the media's eye.

Thanks cruzerc90 and Mark. I consider myself INDEPENDANT for the reasons cruzerc90 listed. I believe part of the problem we are in is the blind voting for a party by people that don't know what they are voting for. Some people just want something for nothing and believe they can get it by their vote. We lose by people who don't even try to understand what they are voting for. We are being destroyed from within for this very reason.

  9. So Mark, if I agree with all your stances and political beliefs and find a candidate that also agrees with me down the line , except say, they are woman's right to choose advocates, or pro-choice,

Should I not vote for them even if we agree in all other topics?

  10. if that is the difference do not vote for them

  11. That was just my opinion. That is why it was the first belief I put in there. You may have differing priorities to your beliefs.
That is why Palin should have been the front of the ticket instead of the 2nd.

  12. Apparently not many people know what the party they align themselves with stand for

  13. I wonder if the people that voted yes to Bob Kaul keeping up the good work in your poll are all Democrats? And likewise are the people wanting him to resign all Republicans?
