MAYOR TIM APPOINTS NEW ANNEXATION COMMITTEE

Just back from a much needed break this past weekend and I am raring to get back into some sane discussion relating to what’s happening around Havre. I was sent a query as to “what is up with the Mayors new Annexation committee?” At last Tuesday’s council meeting Mayor Tim appointed a committee that will deal with future annexation, growth, development planning, and zoning issues such as the recent request for a permit for a medical marijuana grower, and the request by Councilperson Pam Hillary to look into an ordinance that would ban strippers in the City of Havre. The committee appointments were Woody Woodwick, Pam Hillary, Andrew Brekke, and Janet Tretheway. Mayor Tim also appointed Tretheway as chairman of this committee.

We at the Corrector applaud Mayor Tim for appointing a permanent committee to continue to deal with annexation of adjacent properties but we find it odd that the newcomer to the council, Democrat Janet Tretheway, would be appointed chairman over the Republican council person that spearheaded the committee the last two years, Andrew Brekke. The Corrector advocates that we do what is best for the City as a whole and it would appear that the person with the most knowledge and experience has been passed over strictly because he is of the opposing political party than the Mayor. Come on Mayor Tim – You can do better. The City’s work is not about Democrats and Republicans, but the taxpayers in the City limits.

Of course, aside from the annexation issues, maybe they will be seeking some volunteers to review the problem strippers and to do some taste testing to make certain this “medical” marijuana is safe for the general public? I am sure we have some readers that would be willing to get involved!

  1. The voters of Havre voted for change and you guys are surprised a Democrat appointed a Democrat to head a new committee?
Yep, you guys are a kick.

  2. I voted for change also, like change from doing stupid stuff like the former Mayor was noted for. Making an inexperienced person chairman when you have a knowledgeable person available isn't change, it is partisan politics stupidity. It looks like Timmie will be doing what is best for his party buddies instead of what’s best for the city and I will be voting for change again in 4 years. What can’t they understand about NO MORE PARTISAN POLITICS?

  3. I'm curious freddy, are you willing to wait and see what comes from this committee or are you an example of that which you profess to abhor?

  4. I will wait but it seems to be off to a bad start

  5. Will the members of the council be going out of town to "research" the stripper ordinence?

I would love to see them all pile into the clubs. If only there was a "bada bing" with a Soprano running the place.

I would also like to see them really research the medical marijuana thing. I dont use it,personally, but from what I understand it is a wonder drug, and should be prescribed much more than it actually is.

Once again the absolute disaster in this country that is called "substance abuse treatment" is prosyltizing more untruths as medical fact.
The professional AA cartel again has its political fingers where they should not be...

  7. Maybe I should get involved after all. I am going to call Woody and see if we can pass a minimal beauty ordinance pertaining to the quality of the strippers in Havre. Just say NO to homely strippers with saggy goods that are past their prime. We deserve better. What do you say Woody? Want to smoke a bowl of that medical grade stuff and discuss my ideas?

  8. After the major fumbles that Andrew made moyor Tim was probably hoping for someone who might have a clue. These clowns are looking for more money for the city and have no real plan for annexing property and providing ALL THE SERVICES THE CITY HAS TO OFFER TO ALL PROPERTIES BEING ANNEXED.I do not see a problem with annexation but first the plan should be completed and all problems should be addressed then implement the plan.

  9. Hey fuelburner1969 just what fumbles are you talking about? For some of us who have lived in Havre for years we don't feel Andrew made any mistakes. If I remember right he and the whole council seemed in lockstep on this issue and I should say its about time. Why does everyone blame Andrew, because he actually did what we have been asking the City to do for years? That's right we waited years for this to happen but nobody had the cojones to do it, well old Mayor Bob put Andrew in charge because he knew he could do the job and he did. Haven't heard of any major problems their decisions have made with us townfolks. We wanted it, they said the would do it and they did. Amen.

  12. Fuelburner1969 are you one of those that were annexed or just an interested bystander? I know Andrew and everybody on that committee and let's get this all straight, after everything I read in the paper and heard about the annexation plan, it was not about partisan politics. How could it be? All the democrats voted for it too and last I checked there were more of them on the Council than Republicans.

I am a Democrat and did not vote for Mayor Bob in the last election mostly because I just felt we needed a change, not because these guys did anything bad. Now I know a bunch of people who voted for Tim and Janet had annexation on their minds, but doesn't that prove it was not about partisan politics? Most of those folks who were annexed were Republicans, right? I mean Patrick, Clausen, Morgan and all those guys aren't they Republicans? Why do you think Schend, Rice and Brekke would blow all their political capital on annexation if it was all about politics? I think its about personalities more than politics. The City guys had a job to do, the folks outside the City didn't want to be annexed and tried to fight it and maybe still are, but it seems to me a year and a half of work or more should be worth some credit especially when they are getting beat in the head for even trying to do what needed to be done years ago.

You also mentioned that Tim appointed Janet because someone needed to have a clue? Everytime I ever go to City Council meetings Mr. Brekke sounds pretty intelligent to me. So you think Tim thinks Andrew it dumb and that's why he appointed Janet over him? Come on.

Havre Has It! Just don't ask us to change or do anything to make our community better be it a prison, or a biodiesel plant or annexation. Let's not do anything like any other community in Montana, I mean how would we keep our identity?

Doesn't make much sense to me, but I am just a dumb railroader and I say let's all go smoke a joint and watch the girlies dance on the pole maybe then we could all get along!

  13. ever wonder why the north side was not involved in the annexation they have city sewer service?

    ReplyDelete
  14. could it be that it's because the railroad owns a lot of these properties and the ground is contaminated. You shoul know Mr. railroad.

    ReplyDelete
  15. or could it be fuelburner that the northside does not get both sewer and water service? That was a requirement to be annexed

Maybe it was a vast right wing conspiricy by the railroad? Or would that be a left wing conspiricy since a Democrat now controls the railroad?

  16. Im down with you Railroader 59501. Lets go smoke a joint. I know Woody is

  17. Come on get over it...if it were Republicans someone would complain and the same goes for Democrats, theres always someone to blame. Why don't the complainers run for office and do something about it!

  18. Come on get over it...if it were a Rebulican in the position someone would still complain. Havre really needs change and maybe thats what most people don't agree with. Why don't the complainers run for office and do something about it, instead of whinning about Democrats!!
