Hill County Buffalo Jump Mural

The election is over and it is time to move on to other topics. Has anyone pulled into the parking lot and actually gotten out to take a look at the new Buffalo Jump mural located just east of Murphy’s? It is a fantastic piece of artwork and the detail is incredible.

Kudos to the Hill County Museum Foundation for making this project a reality.

  1. This was a great promotion of one of Havre's finest tourism offerings

  2. It's very nice, too bad it's in such a hard to view spot.

  3. I had the same thought Cranky. The location could have been better but the mural itself is awesome.

  4. The people involved with bringing this to Havre looked for months for a location. The mall wouldn't allow it so where would you have them put it that was better?

  5. I had no involvement in the logistics of placing the mural, obviously this is a sore point with Your Honor, but regardless of what was available, you have to admit, it's placement is not optimal.

  6. We've been involved with the mural from the beginning. The town park people were approached about putting it there - a definite NO. Next the mall - yes but it would have to be in the back by the jump (where no one would see it). Finally realizing the significance of this mural, Bill and Judi D. volunteered their location. Thank you!!! Don't complain about the location until all the "extra's" have been added. Lights, flowers, benches, walkways etc - it will be AWESOME- just wait and see!!!

  7. This mural is just like anything anyone trys to accomplish in Havre Anna. The arm chair quarterbacks come out of the woodwork long after all the work is done with these better ideas and the you should have, could have, comments. Where were they when all the work was being done?

Where do you think it should have been placed Cranky Farmer? Maybe they could move it?

  8. GOOD GRIEF!

Can no one in Havre ever get behind anything without moaning about something?

  10. I don't live in Havre, but it took several trips up the hill before we noticed the mural, up above us. Maybe the landscaping will help draw the eye to it. Don't get me wrong, it is very nice. I would have probably put it at the fairgrounds myself.
As far as armchair quarterbacks go. There is a saying: "No good deed goes unpunished." You will find that to be very true any time you volunteer.

  12. I think its a nice spot unfortunately the placement takes away from the detail of the artwork,I would like to drive next to it to admire it,because i can't walk to it.Maybe they will put a turn out there.Another nice place would have been by the buffalo sculpture,I heard the bank owns that lot.regardless Havre looks nicer and nicer all the time.

  13. It’s good to hear mostly positive comments about the mural. Just a couple of comments - everyone should know when its totally completed it will be handicapped accessible. Right now you can drive fairly close to the mural but you have to walk a few steps to get in front of the mural to see the detail. Downtown – parking is always a problem – no room for motor homes or travel trailers. The Fairgrounds was ruled out because it was felt the mural should be on the same side of the highway as the buffalo jump. Also it was felt the mural should be prominent so a lot of landscaping would have had to be done. Just wait until the flags are waving and the flowers are blooming…you will see it for quite a distance. I understand there are still bricks for sale…..

  14. Anna,
I see there are some open spots for plaques on the mural. Are they still looking for sponsors, and who do you need to contact to become a sponsor or to contribute?

  15. Yes there are more open spaces on the mural. Thank you for asking. $50 - $100 - $250 - $500 open spaces are available on the back of the mural. The spaces on the front are $1,000. The weather was so unsettled when they erected the mural they decided to wait until spring to mount the etched names on the back at the same time we have the dedication. Blank forms can be picked up at: Murphy’s Pub, Clack Museum and the Coffee Hound. For more information you can call: 265-6417, 265-7670 or 265-9516. Gift cards are also available. Thank you very much for your support we really appreciate it!!!
