CATS AND WEEDS

What important things did the city council deal with this week? Weeds and Cats were the topic at Thursday’s committee meeting but the topic was so exciting that committee person Pam Hillary “forgot” to show up and Cal Long had a work emergency so the cats and weeds discussion was left to members Andrew Brekke and Janet Tretheway and a huge crowd of two or three people. Two people present on a 4 person committee makes a quorum.

First the big weed “problem” It seems that the very same people have to be sent “cut your damn weeds you lazy shit” type notices each and every year. These same people also don’t cut their grass again until they receive yet another notice from the City. The public works department is apparently being overworked because of these notices so they want to just send out one notice and have that be it for the whole year. Don’t cut your weeds and they can send the public works people to do it and place the bill on your doorstep. I nearly got a tear in my eye when I heard about all the bother Peterson and Jenson have been subjected to over the years but do wonder what is wrong with actually doing something for a change when it results in about $3,000 in fines revenue each year added to property taxes plus the revenue from those that actually pay their bill. Come to the council meeting on Monday at 7pm if you have an opinion as the “new improved” weed ordinance will have its first hearing vote. I may just go and “suggest” that the only change that really needs to be made is with Peterson and Jenson’s employment.

A few people have requested that the City Council look into amending the doggie ordinance to include cats. Testimony was presented by a “cat lady” that cats were being abandoned all over town and she desired to see cat abusers get a big fine and maybe a little time at the pillory or something equally as harsh. After hearing some cat “horror” stories councilman Tretheway thought maybe the city could just add cats to the dog ordinance and state that all cats be under control of the owner, I.E. a cat leash law. Tretheway also stated something to the effect that this would be like the dog ordinance; have them on a leash, in control, or locked in your private yard. “If the animal can’t be kept under control, they can’t have it” she stated. I can just see it now, here kitty, kitty; let’s go outside in the yard and do your business but remember don’t go outside the fence. Tretheway went on to say that cats running wild pose health risks like rabies and other nasty plagues on society. What is this woman smoking?

Well at least we can be thankful that Mayor Time has put her in charge of the zoning committee instead of that semi-competent Brekke because we know nothing intelligent will happen now to irritate any new property owners and nothing will be accomplished. It is painfully obvious to everyone attending any council meetings that Ms. Tretheway is in way over her head. But on the bright side, at least Mayor Tim pleased fellow democrats Woody Woodwick, Bob Kaul, and Jimmy Tripleanus by doing their bidding and getting that pesky republican off as chairman. It’s back to all about partisan politics here at City Hall once again.

See you at Monday night’s council meeting. Weeds, Cat leash law and Medical Marijuana on the screen with the committee meeting starting at 6pm. Bring popcorn!

Yep, I can see on U-tube that the leash thingy should work. Don’t forget to take your poop sack with you on your walks so you can be responsible for you cat and cleanup after they do their business

  1. I'm all for doing something about cats! I don't know what makes cat owners think there is nothing wrong with their cats roaming the streets, pooping in my flowers and boat and leaving paw prints all over my freshly washed car. They always use the idea that cats are that way naturally. Well my dog naturally likes to eat your cat. Is it ok if I let him roam the streets eating cats? It is the way he is naturally! Any other ideas I have to deal with cats will get me arrested.

  2. I like the people that keep those little rodents in the house full-time. The rest of them should be on the leash, they can learn to be leashed just like a dog.

Why don't they fine the people that let animals crap all over town? There is already a law about that.......ENFORCE IT!!

  4. When it comes to the Trethways Janet is the smart one and this just shows how bad the candidate for Bergrens old seat is.

What is with these two-do they think they are the next bill and hillary clinton?

  6. You talk about property owners did your shop get annexed Brad? Guess you probably have enough money to pay the new tax or you can just build another building for Dritch and sit back and smoke another cigar.

  7. I don't know Ms.Tretheway but I do know the uptight selfserving idiot she replaced. It's just too bad it took the city of Havre voters so long to finally get rid of Schend and his buddy Wells(Mayor Bob) Hopefully Brekke is next. Schend outdid himself with his Faux news talking points letter to the editor of the Trib.
Anything anyone comes up with for Havre will shine in comparison to those two Bozos..

  8. All city/county government should be non-partisan. If it was, I bet the candidates would be smarter and better. They would not have to be beholden to any party agenda. They could actually think for themselves and listen to their constituents.

  10. We are used to getting nothing done so how is that anything new?

I don't have either a cat or dog because I don't want to have to take care of them, play with them, walk them, or clean up after them.

Why should I have to clean the deposits out of my yard from your pets? Get a leash and some plastic bags or stay home

  11. I vote yes to cat owners keeping cats in the owners house and yard instead of fertilizing mine. Same goes for the dogs that leave a ten pound load in my yard every week.

When was the last time you saw a fine in the court blotter for someone leaving dog doo-doo behind? It is against the law isn't it? So how will another unenforced ordinance help?

  12. Hey Superman, maybe she has been smoking a few doobs with her son Justin. Ya know he was arrested New Years on allegedly possessing pot. Funny how that never made the Havre Daily news they are usually pretty good at publishing Havre City Court cases that are embarassing to indians and poor white trash. Guess if your mommy's on city council and dad is running for state senate they don't publish those things. Wonder if he has a "medical condition?" Oops not sure if he was convicted he is presumed innocent until proved guilty.

  13. I don't think it's the cats that are the problem, it's the pet owners period. I have a cat and a dog, you won't find either one in your yard. Try taking a walk on the "Nature Trail", you had better like dogs. It seems only about a third of the people respect our leash law, the others let them run around unattended. I'm not sure if it is city or county property, but regardless, people should respect other's using the trail and think that maybe they don't love your dog as much as you do.

  14. you know that is just the point nomorelies, we already have an law against leaving your dog deposits all over but no one ever enforces it. When did you last see a fine in the court blotter for not cleaning up after your pet?

  15. ok. First. Why is everyone attacking the Trethaway family? Janet is a much better councel leader than the last one. Jack is a hell of a nice guy who has served this city for years. And as far as Justin goes, i know him and hes a good responsable kid. So he was charged with a crime that hurt noone. Who cares. It wasnt in the paper because they dont print all charges. They usually dont get printed untill they are found guilty. So saying his parents had someting to do with it not making the paper is just crap. And the stupid cats, if you dont like animals in your yard build a bigger fence! Or move outa town. Animals arent going to disapear because you make a dumb law. Catch em and fix em! If the local dog catcher did his job it wouldnt be such a big poroblem. Here is an idea. Fire his lazy ass and hire someone who wants to earn there money.
