Havre TBID Proposal gets Revived

Back on April 16 we reported that the Havre TBID proposal was dead but now it appears we are back on track with the proposal again coming before the council Monday night.

Thanks to the diligent work of the Havre Chamber and the unified complaining voices of the Havre Corrector readers the Keanneallys, owners of the Town Pump Corporation, have reconsidered their refusal to sign on to the Havre motel TBID proposal. After claiming we were ”backwards thinking hicks” the Town Pump Corp has now decided to “make nice” and are graciously joining the effort to assess motel room nights an additional dollar to be used to advertise and promote Havre. This assessment is expected to generate approximately $80,000 from out of area travelers spending the night in Havre.

Thanks to those that came up to the plate to see this through.

  1. Stupid Idea! Havre is NOT A DESTINATION! Unelss you get to the walmart too late and want in when they reopen in the morning.

  2. This is not about making Havre a destination. It is encouraging travelers to stop and take in what we do have to offer. "Havre Beneath the Street" is one of the most popular attractions in the state and I have heard that it is better than the one in Seattle. That is only one of the tourist attractions. If the only thing you, "north havre", can see is walmart, then you are sorely shortsighted.

  3. The Chamber brought this matter to the council monday but the paper chose not to cover it. I would think a story about an additional 60 to 80 thousand dollars to promote Havre would be newsworthy. They also didn't do a story when the townpump pulled support either.

They only do stories that are geared to form your opinion to what they think you should think

  4. It is to bad that the State highway took out the parking lanes through town it is hard for people traveling through to find a place to park if you are driving anything with a trailer or large motorhome. Most big traffic has to stop in Chinook to eat or park in the lane of traffic in Havre what a pain.

  5. well sorry to bust the correctors bubble, but the TBID proposal didn't get revived. It was supposed to get read before the city council this monday, but as anyone who was at the meeting knows it never got put on the dockit. So yet again, for the 5th time since January the people behind this proposal have to wait 2 more weeks to even try to get the proposal read, then wait 2 more weeks, then read again, then voted on then, maybe passed. They might not be backwards but organized and speedy they are not.

  6. I was at the meeting also and Debbie from the Chamber came forward during the open mike and said Town Pump had signed on again and they were moving forward with the proposal but she had called the city to late to get the proposal on the agenda so council approval would have to wait until the next meeting in 2 weeks

  7. Maybe the council should meet on a weekly basis.
