HAVRE SCHOOL BUDGETS AND EXPENDITURES

Anyone know where to get a copy of the Havre School Budget? According to the Sunshine Review   http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/States_with_spending_online   Schools should have a copy of their respective budgets available on line at each school’s website, which Havre does not.  http://www.havre.k12.mt.us/havrek12/site/default.asp

Let’s take a look at some charts regarding historical data for the Havre School system. In 2008 the High School District spent 6.53 million of your tax dollars http://www.schoolsopenmt.org/TLR1_DD_Exp.aspx?Year=2008  while the Havre Elementary system spent 11.57 million http://www.schoolsopenmt.org/TLR1_Main.aspx

Maybe some taxpayers would like to call the Freedom of Information Hotline to get some advice on how to go about getting information released from our School Board? http://www.umt.edu/Journalism/alumni/professional_resources/Montana_FOI.html  This board had a budget of over 18.10 million dollars in 2008. After last Wednesday’s questionable expenditure, wouldn’t you like to know what else this board has been spending their money on?

Give us some feedback

  1. Nice to see the elementary school consolidation did not lower their expenses.

  3. IF you click on the bar chart you can see the expenses broken out by area.
    Not very detailed.

  4. When you have an 18 million dollar budget at the school the fact of the matter is that this waste is only 1% of the budget so they don't care that some poor schmucks paid all of thier property taxes into this waste, there is plenty more where that money came from.

I din't ever see anything about this in the Tribune but I did notice an article about our Super in the Billings paper http://www.billingsgazette.com/news/state-and-regional/montana/article_10528432-09c5-11df-9fdf-001cc4c002e0.html

  6. Their are a number of "interesting" financial arrangements which have been approved by the HPS Board of Trustees in the past, including one involving the continued payment of annual health care benefits for a "retired" district clerk which was approved by the curent Board's Vice Chair during her service to the community. Unfortunately, this provision, like many others, is buried in the budgets lump sum accounting practices. The budget reporting process was headed in the right direction under previous Superintendent Parman and the former Board Chair who both demanded "transparency" in the decision making and spending process. Unfortunately, the voters failed to heed the warning on the eve of the previous election, when at least one incumbent pointed out the potential serious issues facing the district if the voters failed to retain experienced people with high integrity in leadership positions on the Board of Trustees. Looks like the current Board has adopted the "return to business as usual" approach which was the norm in the District some seven years ago.

  7. After all this controversy surrounding Mahon and his contract or lack thereof and the building addition and now the budget, is there a way to audit the schools books? I think an independent auditor should be hired to give the taxpayers a look at the numbers. Even a corporation is required to have an annual indpendent audit of their books, what's the difference? I would like to be armed with some data and informantion before I make decisions. Wake up people and smell the massive waste! It's not about the kids it's about complete and total mismanagement of our tax money. The board should be ashamed of themselves for not fully explaining their decisions. Do as I say, not as I do??? Havre Public Schools!
