KEEPING AN EYE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD

When we at the Corrector look back through our posts we notice that the Havre School System has received the most blows from our comment section. If you are truly interested in making some changes the Corrector would like to remind you that the Havre School Board is meeting today at 12:15 to talk about the Mahon replacement issue. This would be the time to pack the house and voice your disgust. Also if you go early you may notice the tax-funded lunch spread out for the School Board’s working meeting members that they plan to again rudely eat in front of the audience. The Corrector encourages you, since you paid for it with your taxes and you are a tax-payer, go ahead and gobble it up along with them, don’t be shy. :-)

Also for those that have been thinking of filing to run for the School Board, the filing deadline is March 25th for the May4th election. Let’s bring some sensibility and transparency back to the school board.
Post your comments or e-mail us your "investigative tips" to havredailycorrector@bresnan.net

  1. I read in today's Havre Daily Snooze discussion on Mill Levies and next years budget. I can tell the board here and now my vote IS NO NO NO on ANY school mills. You gave money away with no explanation, now it's up to you to replace it without asking the taxpayers for a dime.

  2. You really did not describe the school board accurately. "Leaderless, Pin Headed" should have been put in before the word "academics'". Oh yes, and construction "Experts"!!!

  5. one quick phone call and here's the truth - THERE WAS NO MEETING TODAY you bumblin fools.

it was last night - it was a planning meeting

    COME ON

    how embarassing is that.

and another thing - who are these gutless wonders hiding behind this BS - asking others to carry their water for them by asking the questions in the open that they do not have the nerve to ask themselves in the open

come on out from behind your mommas apron

  6. i_wonder, why does it matter who's asking questions here? Why does it matter? It seems to me that people are venting here which is healthy and asking questions and discussion are always healthy. In my opinion Public officials owe their constituents answers as they do not have the power to hide behind their aprons either. Montana law prevents this. To me the major issue with this board's position was their insistence in keeping the reasons behind Mahon's resignation confidential. Did Mahon waive his rights? Did he sign an agreement requiring his silence these questions can be answered without waiving confidentiality. 2-3-203 MCA pertains to open meetings and allows the presiding officer of a public meeting to only close a meeting if he or she feels the right to privacy of the invididual in question exceeds public disclosure except if the individual waives his or her rights. If the person in question is not in attendance then the meeting cannot be closed and this has been held many times. My understanding is that Mr. Mahon was not present at the meeting where his resignation was announced and again if no misconduct occured I do not see why the board feels Mahon's right to privacy trumps the people's right to know. What standard did they use to make this determination? Be nice i_wonder if you don't like this blog take your own advice and get a life!

  7. I wonder,
First I made one quick call also to the person that went to last Wednesday’s School Board meeting at 12:15 pm where they announced the Superintendents resignation and they are positive a planning meeting was announced to be held “one week from today at 12:15, because they have that written in their notes, which is what we reported last week. In addition, I went through may stack of old Havre papers and found that on Friday in one of their articles they reported that the “planning” meeting was to be held on Tuesday at 12:15 so I guess your correct as something must of changed in the schedule (perhaps to discourage Corrector readers from attending?) and we weren’t aware of that. There was a regularly scheduled School board meeting last night, which we did not attend.

We are just attempting to find out what is going on with our tax money, over $200,000 wasted on Mahon for instance, which concerns us greatly. We have reported that our “staff” is a group of volunteer bloggers that compile information for posting on the Corrector. We pay the “staff” the same amount of money that we charge you for visiting our blog, so cut us a little slack as patriots that want to advance our rights in regards to freedom of information from our elected officials

Since you brought up gutless wonders, we do notice that you also use a made up name to hide behind (i wonder) and have your profile blocked so perhaps you should step out from behind Momma’s apron yourself.

That being said, this blog is for discussion so thank you for your very well thought out comments and please visit us again

  9. The blog asks if anyone went to the school board meeting? I doubt many, if any, went because you will be “punished” for attending and asking questions and thru the years everyone has learned that lesson except me apparently.

I have lived in Havre most all of my life and here is my personal “experience” with the school board. I have gone to one meeting in the last 4-5 years and that was this last Wednesday noon and there were maybe 10 other people in attendance, most of which I recognized as people working for or connected with the school. The board announced the Superintendents resignation, took one question from someone asking about school management procedure without a Superintendent, and then I dared ask a question about the bidding procedure for the HighLand Park school since some of the contractors had received a letter telling then the foundation portion of the blueprint was done and they were invited to bid. I was told by board chairman Shad that they couldn’t speak to the question because it wasn’t on the agenda but he did talk to me after the meeting. I in turn relayed that information to a couple of local contractors that had gone to the Chamber Dinner and couldn’t attend the school board meeting.

Now, because I attended this one lone school board meeting and learned nothing, I am being “punished” by at least two of the school board members who for a fact I have heard have been spreading around town that I am a dung stirrer, the resident town troublemaker, and the author of this blog. That must be embarrassing for the Corrector to have them hook you with me, a troublemaker?

So now for my indiscretion last Wednesday I will lose yet more business because I dared even attend a meeting where my taxes are being spent, let alone had the guts to dare ask a question. (which had nothing to do with the Superintendent which is what this blog is complaining about) So Corrector, this is why no one goes to any government meetings. You stand to lose business and potentially big amounts of business when residents are incited to boycott you for your opinions. The board members doing this bad mouthing were reported to me by a friend I trust that works in the school system so I know the information is factual.

Here’s the scenario for a person that dares question the mighty boards and government bodies around town. First, they start the bad mouthing like these two (or maybe all?)Board members did. Second, they try to turn school employees against you so you lose the potential for several hundred customers. Third, they try to relate it somehow to the Union so they can tie their little boycott into a loss of business for the offender from the railroad workers, hospital, college, and other union employers which number in the thousands. This is the way it has been in Havre since I starting questioning governmental decisions over 20 years ago. That is why we never get a sane business person to ever run for any public board or office. Being active in the “workings” of the community rewards you with boycotts of your business and the spewing of trash talk by those you question.

No, I didn’t attend but I will again in 4 years or so. See you then!

WOW I see it is very difficult to post anything on here without people trying to give it a negative spin I guess Norsman in a previous blog said it correct in regards to people speculating, Sorry Shad and the Trustees of the School Board for any harm this may have caused, I was just trying to point out what a joke this site is and try to point out thier is always more to a story. I really think it should change its name to the Havre Daily Corrupter. This is only for the negative. I thought maybe just maybe with that posting it would generate people to respond with positive comments also. I should of known better. Just so you know look me up in the phone book it is me.
