JUSTICE GONE AWRY?

The Havre Daily Corrector just recieved a report asking that we do some investigation of the County Attorney’s office. What follows is a portion of the “tip” sent to us by a reader. Anyone with further information as to the win/loss ratio send us the behind the scenes news at havredailycorrector@bresnan.net

Right now in court today they have charged a drunken college student that passed out in a strangers house with felony burglary and a host of other charges. The kid got completely drunk, wandered into the wrong house and passed out. I'm not saying the kid should get off scot free, but 2 felonies and 3 misdemeanors? This kid's life is going to be ruined. He didn't assault the owners of the home. He didn't try to steal anything. He had too much to drink.

Give him a ton of community service. Make him pay restitution. Make take some alcohol awareness classes.
While you are investigating this investigate their win/loss record.
Should be some good reading.

I wonder if Havre’s finest “real” News source will be in the court to report on this case? Furthermore, now that I have thought about it, why haven’t there ever been any reports like the one above published in the “real” News paper when we hear these reports continually? So much for “investigative” journalism in backwoods Havre Montana.
PS.............The Hill County Attorney, Gina Bishop, is up for re-election this year.  People can file for the postition begining January 14th at the Clerk and Recorder's Office and the position pays $86,975 per year plus a full benefit package
Correction - As pointed out by a reader --- The current County Attorney is Gina Dahl, not Bishop as we mistakenly reported above.

  1. While I appreciate the Daily Corrector and have enjoyed reading the posts, I must take exception to this one. There are so many inaccuracies in this post it is hard to know where to begin. But, since you were posting at 9:18am you had the to opportunity to be in open court and actually hear the evidence that was presented. This is NOT just a case of someone passing out in the wrong location. There is a whole lot more to it. Please check your facts before posting. And unless I am mistaking...the Hill County Attorney is named Gina Dahl. Again, I do appreciate the Corrector but when you are making accusations it seems important to have at least some of the facts.

  2. Thanks for the corrections, we appreciate getting the facts. like we said in the blog, the post was a "tip" from a reader. We are more then happy to report other views as well as a response from our reader that sent us this "tip"

And by the way, if I was a "real" reporter for a real"news" paper I would have been in court but sadly my pay for doing this blog doesn't put many groceries on my families table.

  3. If you were a "real" reporter, you could probably spell 'receive" correctly.

  4. Shucks! Even the "real" reporters make spelling errors. In fact, I don't think the "real" newspaper has spell check in their computer system.

  5. hmmm...throwing a wheel barrow over the fence, kicking in the gate, moving the wheel barrow up to the back door and walking inside doesn't sound like a true drunk and didn't know what I was doing :)

  6. I have some insider information on this case.
This individual did do a little more than just pass out in someones house BUT
This drunk kid had spent a lot of time that day at the Vets club.
From what I hear from a VERY inside source, Jerry and Bob had a meeting and decided that the book should be thrown at this kid to divert attention away from their bar.
I would not be surprised if the anonymous person who put up the wheel barrow story might be one of the insiders themselves.
If this kid is convicted there should be flash mob protests at both the court house and bob and jerrys bar.

  7. It appears there is another side to this story. Is this at trial now? I hope the Corrector follows up on this.

Maybe someone with the real scope should e-mail the facts to the Corrector or post the whole story on here without bias

  8. Thanks Jim for that idea. It is apparent from the few calls we have made that there is more to this story. Getting further information has proved difficult but we are pursuing some leads. Anyone have the facts give us a shout-out.

We will be back with a blog when we get the whole story.
By the way, I am told the County attorney, prior to her marriage, used the name Bishop so we didn't quite have the name right, or at least current.

  10. Sadly the main difference between your blog and the "real" newspaper is the fact that they are required by law to only publish facts that are verified. They can't just write stories based on rumors and opinion pieces have to be saved for the editorial page. Anyone could actually go to the courthouse and read the file on this case if they were truly interested. I sort of get the idea that most would rather play the mud slinging game with you. Just in case you were wondering...I work at Walmart, not for any of the government agencies.
